A Premier Data Science and Analytics Degree Program
What sets Marist’s Data Science and Analytics program apart is its direct connection to real-world application. Working hand-in-hand with major data institutions like IBM provides you with the opportunities to not only retain the theory of Data Science and Analytics but to apply it from day one of your academic career.
Take Career-Complementing Coursework
The Data Science and Analytics curriculum is designed to provide a foundational base in the discipline while diving deep into data science coursework. Develop computer science fundamentals with courses such as Algorithm Analysis & Design and Database Management, expand into data science classes like Machine Learning and Data Mining & Predictive Analytics, and round out your academics with unique electives like Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support & Business Intelligence Systems. Data Science and Analytics is available as a major and a minor so you can integrate the program to best suit your future goals
Tap Into Our Marist-IBM Partnership
Recognized as one of the 25 Most Connected Campuses in the U.S. by Princeton Review and Forbes, Marist has garnered meaningful partnerships with major institutions in technology, including IBM. Through the Marist/IBM Joint Study program, you can participate in testing of IBM’s new concepts and technology right here on campus in our Enterprise Computing Lab, our Internet of Things (IoT) Lab, and our Cloud Computing and Analytics Lab. The partnership also grants our students access to conferences like IBM’s TechConnect, resources like IBM’s Open Source Development Lab, and internship and career opportunities for during after your time at Marist.
Augusto González Bonorino: Gaining Real-World Data Science Experience
Eager to gain hands-on experience in data science, rising Junior Augusto worked alongside experienced faculty in the Data Science Department and in the industry. “I got an opportunity to work for the Marist Data Science department as a lead AI student scientist,” says Augusto. “I took it without a doubt. Now, I am working side by side with Professors Eitel Lauria and Edward Presutti on developing an AI-powered chatbot with state-of-the-art Natural Language Processing (NLP) skills which will ultimately be incorporated.”
Learn by Doing in a Hands-on Environment
As a Data Science and Analytics student at Marist, you’ll have a wide range of opportunities to apply your classroom learning in a hands-on environment. One of the most exciting and popular events for our students is an annual conference called DataFest during which teams of undergraduates from many colleges and universities work around the clock to find and share meaning in a large, rich, and complex data set. During the competition, students are exposed to large, complex data sets and are able to apply what they have learned in real-world scenarios.
Learn From Well-Renowned Faculty in the Field
Not only will you be learning Data Science and Analytics from experienced faculty, but you’ll be learning from experts who are respected and recognized within the field. For example, Prof. Eitel Lauría has worked in the IS/IT industry for 20+ years, serving as a technology consultant to IBM, Microsoft, ExxonMobil, Reuters, Hewlett Packard, GE Global Research, and the World Bank among other global corporations. Having published his research in data science, business intelligence, predictive analytics, and statistical machine learning, Professor Lauría even presented research at the LatinX in AI Workshop at the International Conference on Machine Learning.
